Cozmo – Anki’s Desktop Robot
1472
Cozmo rides a thin line between toy and robot. It sleeps, plays, learns, and can even recognize faces. The facial recognition technology is powered by the mouth (or should I say the camera that sits where the mouth would be). Cozmo comes with the ability to emulate a range of states including; excited, happy, confident, brave, and calm. By combining these states this quirky little robot can replicate complex human-like emotions. Instead of giving the robot a set of pre-programed animations, the animators at Anki set a range of motions that the robot can perform and let Cozmo decide which motion to take, when to take it, and how far. That's what give it a life and character of its own.
Factoid:
In 1495, Leonardo da Vinci drew up plans for an armored humanoid machine. To help colonize Mars, Engineer Mark Rosheim has created a functional miniature version of Leonardo's design.
